The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King

The film begins with a flashback of how Sméagol acquired the One Ring, before his degeneration and name change to 'Gollum', taking Frodo and Sam to Minas Morgul. Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Gandalf, Théoden and Éomer meet up with Merry, Pippin and Treebeard at Isengard, now under the Ents' control, and Gandalf deduces that Saruman will pose no further threat. They also recover the palantír. Pippin's curiosity gets the better of him at Edoras, and he looks into it. The vision he sees (of a dead white tree in a burning stone courtyard) alerts Gandalf that Sauron is planning to attack Minas Tirith, and he rides off there with Pippin. In Rivendell, on her way to the Undying Lands, Arwen has a vision of her son by Aragorn and convinces Elrond to reforge Narsil, the sword that cut the Ring from Sauron's finger long ago. She then forsakes the gift of immortality to be with Aragorn; her fate now rests with the outcome of the war.

Gandalf and Pippin arrive at Minas Tirith to find the steward Denethor mourning over Boromir, and Pippin swears loyalty to him in recompense for Boromir's sacrifice. Meanwhile, the Witch-king of Angmar, leader of the Nazgûl, dispatches his immense Orc army from his lair Minas Morgul, heralding the start of the war. The Morgul army drives the Gondorians out of Osgiliath, and Faramir is forced to take a doomed ride to reclaim the city. While climbing the stairs into Mordor at Minas Morgul, Gollum convinces Frodo to send Sam home in the belief that he wants the Ring. At the urging of Gandalf, Pippin lights the first of the beacon signals to Edoras, alerting Théoden and the rest of the Rohirrim and prompting them to ride to Dunharrow to prepare for war. While preparing for battle in Dunharrow, Aragorn meets Elrond, who presents the future king with the newly reforged sword Andúril. Aragorn then sets off with Legolas and Gimli to brave the Paths of the Dead, enlisting the help of the cursed Army of the Dead in capturing the ships of the Corsairs of Umbar (Sauron was planning to use the corsairs to launch a surprise attack on Minas Tirith while the defenders were preoccupied with the Orcs). Théoden rides off to war with six thousand riders, unaware that Éowyn and Merry are also part of the army.

The Morgul forces, composed mostly of Orcs, begin the siege of Minas Tirith, and many missiles are traded, while the Witch-king and the other Ringwraiths on their Fell Beasts also attack, destroying siege weapons and sowing terror among the defenders. The Morgul army break into the city using the enormous battering ram Grond. At the same time, Gollum betrays Frodo to the large spider Shelob, but Sam returns to fight her off. Sam believes Frodo is dead and takes the Ring from him, but when Orcs from the Tower of Cirith Ungol take Frodo, Sam overhears that he is still alive. At Minas Tirith, Denethor has gone mad and prepares a funeral pyre for himself and the unconscious Faramir. Gandalf and Pippin arrive on the scene and manage to save Faramir, but despite Gandalf's best efforts, Denethor dies. The Rohirrim arrive and charge into the Orcs, but the Witch-king responds with a counter-attack, attempting to rout the Rohirrim with the forces of Harad, including the immense Mûmakil. The Witch-king descends on Théoden, fatally wounding him. Aragorn finally arrives with the undead on the captured Corsair ships and proceeds to annihilate the Orcs and Mûmakil, while Éowyn and Merry kill the Witch-king. Théoden dies of his wounds, and Aragorn holds the Dead Army's oath fulfilled, releasing them from their curse at last.

Sam rescues Frodo from Cirith Ungol, which is mostly empty following a fight between the two factions of the Tower's Orc garrison over the mithril shirt, and they begin the long trek across Mordor to Mount Doom. Gandalf realizes that ten thousand Orcs stand between Cirith Ungol and Mount Doom, which will prevent Frodo from reaching his destination. Aragorn proposes they lead the remaining soldiers to the Black Gate to draw the Orcs away from Frodo's path. Sam carries Frodo up to Mount Doom, but Gollum arrives and attacks them, just as the Men of the West furiously battle the Orcs. At the Crack of Doom, Frodo, instead of dropping the ring into the lava, succumbs to its power and puts it on, disappearing from sight (the act alerts Sauron, and sends the Ringwraiths racing towards Mount Doom). Gollum renders Sam unconscious, seizes Frodo's finger, and bites it off. As he begins to celebrate reclaiming the ring, Frodo gathers his strength (and his senses) and charges at him. After a brief struggle, they both fall over the edge. Gollum falls into the lava flow with the Ring, while Frodo hangs onto the edge of the cliff. Sam rescues Frodo as the Ring finally sinks into the lava and is destroyed. The Tower of Barad-dûr collapses, Sauron's essence fades and then explodes, destroying him for good, and the Orcs, Ringwraiths and the remaining forces of Sauron are killed in the ensuing shockwave and earthquakes. Frodo and Sam are stranded as Mount Doom destructively erupts, until Gandalf arrives with the Eagles, and they awake in Minas Tirith, reuniting with their friends.

Aragorn is crowned King, heralding the new age of peace, and is reunited with Arwen. The hobbits return to the Shire, where Sam marries Rosie Cotton. Frodo, having finished writing the story of the Lord of the Rings and still exhausted from his quest as the Ring-bearer, decides to leave Middle-earth with Gandalf, Bilbo, Elrond and Galadriel at the Grey Havens, leaving his account of the story to Sam, who peacefully continues his family life.

The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers

The film begins with a flashback set to the first film, with Gandalf battling the Balrog on the Bridge of Khazad-dûm, but this time continues from Gandalf's perspective, with the scene continuing to follow both as they hurtle down below, fighting while in free-fall. Frodo awakens from his dream and continues his journey with his trusted and loyal friend, Sam. They are then attacked by the ring-possessed Gollum wishing to retrieve "his precious" from the ones he thinks stole it from him. The Hobbits subdue and bind him with Sam's Elven rope given to him by the Elven elder Galadriel in Lórien. Sam distrusts Gollum and wishes to abandon him, but Frodo understands the burden of the creature and takes pity on him. Realizing they are lost in the Emyn Muil and in need of a guide, Frodo persuades Gollum to lead them to the Black Gate of Mordor.

In Rohan, the pack of Uruk-hai run across the grassy landscape with their captives Merry and Pippin. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli are in pursuit, following three days of running, Legolas surmises the Hobbits are being taken to Isengard, where Saruman is marshalling his Uruk-hai forces to do the bidding of Sauron. In the kingdom of Rohan, home of the horse lords, King Théoden is mentally and physically weak due to the enchantments of his steward, Gríma Wormtongue, who is secretly in the service of Saruman. Orcs and Wild Men of Dunland incited by Saruman freely roam the land and kill the people including the king's only son Théodred. Théoden's nephew Éomer interrogates Gríma, angrily realizing he has lustful eyes for Éomer's sister Éowyn and that he is now an agent of Saruman. Gríma banishes Éomer for undermining his authority and Éomer sets forth to gather the remaining loyal men of the Rohirrim throughout the land.

Frodo and Sam traverse the Dead Marshes, passing the undead fallen warriors of the Second Age who haunt the marshes and evading a newly seated Ringwraith on his flying fell beast. Later they reach the Black Gate, finding it to be heavily guarded, (they observe a contingent of Easterlings from Rhûn arrive to reinforce the garrison) only to have Gollum reveal to them a less risky path: Sam remains distrustful, but Frodo gives him the benefit of the doubt. Meanwhile, Éomer and his Rohirrim ambush and kill all of the Orcs and Uruk-hai holding the two Hobbits captive at nightfall. During the battle, Merry and Pippin narrowly escape their captors by fleeing into the trees where they are aided by Treebeard the oldest of the Ents.

Éomer later encounters Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli and in turn tells Aragorn there were no survivors of the Orc/Uruk-hai slaughter. Upon arriving at the battle site, Aragorn uses his tracking skills and finds hobbit tracks that lead into nearby Fangorn forest. The three discover a wizard who is ultimately Gandalf reborn, now known as Gandalf the White. The quartet proceed to travel to Edoras, where they exorcise Saruman's hold on King Théoden and banish Wormtongue. Théoden is confronted with his dead son and rather than risk open war, decides to flee to a large fortress called Helm's Deep which in times of trouble has saved the people of Rohan. Gandalf leaves to find Éomer and his Rohirrim, promising to return within five days, as a strong attraction draws Éowyn to Aragorn during the journey to Helm's Deep. Wormtongue flees to Orthanc and tells Saruman of Rohan breaking from their grip; Saruman then decides to destroy Rohan.

In Ithilien, Gollum battles his split personality in an attempt to befriend Frodo and Sam and ultimately banishes his "evil" half. The two hobbits are witness to an ambush of Southrons but are taken captive by soldiers of Gondor. Meanwhile, along the journey to Helm's Deep, the travelers are attacked by Saruman's Wargs and their Orc riders. During the battle, Aragorn is dragged by a Warg and falls off a cliff into a raging river as the grief-stricken survivors reluctantly move on to Helm's Deep. In Rivendell, Elrond knows that the age of Elves is ending and convinces Arwen that it is hopeless to stay and should leave for the Grey Havens. Elrond shows her a prophetic vision if she waits for Aragorn, even if he succeeds in destroying Sauron and becomes King of Gondor, he will still succumb to mortality: Arwen will suffer grievously once he is dead and she is left to wither away- she reluctantly agrees to leave. Elsewhere, Frodo and Sam are taken to Henneth Annûn and brought before Faramir, the younger brother of Boromir. Gollum eluded capture and in order to save his life, is lured into a trap unknowingly by Frodo. Faramir learns of the One Ring and, seeking to prove his worth to his father, decides the Ring shall go to Gondor. In Rohan, Aragorn washes up on the river's edge and is nudged back to consciousness by his horse, Brego. Battered but undaunted, he rides to Helm's Deep, passing Saruman's army of Uruk-hai, which numbers at least 10,000 strong. His arrival is met with relief but is short lived with the news of only 300 men in the stronghold. In the midst of despair, a battalion of Elves from Lórien, led by the Elf Haldir, arrives to assist in the ensuing battle. At Fangorn forest, Merry, Pippin, Treebeard and other Ents hold a Council to decide on the roles of the Ents in the war with Saruman.

In the pouring rain, the battle of Helm's Deep begins with a flurry of arrows from both human and Elven archers cutting down dozens of Uruk-hai. Scaling ladders are placed upon the Deeping Wall, and the Uruks swarm up to engage the defenders. The defenses are slowly being breached and the enemy manages to destroy the wall through its sewer drain, using a rudimentary explosive device created by Saruman. Despite Aragorn and Gimli's best efforts, the Uruk-hai manage to penetrate the main door and soon the stronghold is overrun. In the midst of battle, Haldir is slain and the few remaining Elves fall back into the Keep. In the Hornburg, however, the Uruks have also scaled the walls, and have breached the gate, forcing the defenders to retreat into the Keep. In Fangorn, Treebeard and the other Ents have decided to not have any involvement in the war. Frustrated, Pippin cleverly takes him to the section of Fangorn Forest Saruman has decimated near Isengard. Treebeard is filled with rage at Saruman's betrayal and commands all other Ents to seek vengeance. The Ents gather and embark upon 'the Last March of the Ents'.

Meanwhile, as the Keep is now under attack and realizing Gandalf's words before he departed, Aragorn and the rest make one last gallant ride on horseback to attack the Uruk-hai army, in a desperate bid to allow the Rohirrim's women and children to escape. As the riders are surrounded and all seems lost, Gandalf, Éomer, and two thousand Riders of the Rohirrim arrive to push back the Uruk-hai into Fangorn Forest, where the Ents and their Huorn allies are waiting to deal out death and destruction in revenge. Elsewhere, the Ents also attack Isengard, tossing stones and rocks while collapsing a dam to flood its surroundings.

At the ruins of Osgiliath, Faramir and the Hobbits are confronted by a Ringwraith and its fell beast. With the help of Sam, Frodo narrowly escapes the Ringwraith's efforts to capture him. Sam narrates how the story must go on and how they should keep pressing forward as Faramir decides to free them to finish their quest. Gandalf and the others now know a full war is inevitable (as Sauron will surely seek retribution for the defeat of Saruman) and hope rests with Frodo and Sam, who have resumed their journey to Mordor with Gollum. Accompanying them once again and having felt betrayed after his subsequent mistreatment by Faramir's men, Gollum's darker nature returns and decides to reclaim the ring by leading Frodo and Sam to "her".

The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring

The foreword, spoken by Galadriel, shows the Dark Lord Sauron forging the One Ring in order to conquer the lands of Middle-earth. A Last Alliance of Elves and Men is formed to counter Sauron's forces at the foot of Mount Doom, but Sauron kills Elendil, the High King of Men. His son, Prince Isildur grabs Elendil's broken sword Narsil, and slashes at Sauron's hand, separating him from the Ring and vanquishing his army. However, because Sauron's "life force" is bound to the Ring, he is not completely defeated until the Ring itself is destroyed. Isildur takes the Ring and succumbs to its temptation, refusing to destroy it. He is later ambushed and killed by orcs, and the Ring is lost in a river. The Ring is found by the creature Gollum thousands of years later, who takes it underground for five centuries, giving him "unnaturally long life." Since the Ring is bound to Sauron, it has a will of its own and wants to be found. Therefore, the Ring consciously leaves Gollum in its quest to be reunited with Sauron. However, it is instead found by the hobbit Bilbo Baggins, much to the despair of Gollum. Bilbo returns to his home in the Shire with the Ring, and the story jumps forward in time sixty years.

At his 111th ("eleventy-first") birthday, Bilbo leaves the Ring to his nephew and adopted heir Frodo Baggins. The Wizard Gandalf soon learns it is the One Ring, and that Sauron seeks to retake it. Taking no chances, Gandalf tells Frodo to leave the Shire with the Ring and sends him to Bree with his friend and gardener,Sam, with plans to meet him there after Gandalf goes to Isengard to meet the head of his order, Saruman. Saruman reveals that the Nazgûl, or Ringwraiths, have left Mordor to capture the Ring and kill whoever carries it; having already been corrupted to Sauron's cause, he then imprisons Gandalf atop Orthanc. Gandalf is then forced to watch as Saruman orders his orcs to destroy the forests surrounding Isengard to build weapons of war and create an elite Orc army called the Uruk-hai.

While travelling to Bree, Frodo and Sam are soon joined by fellow hobbits Merry and Pippin. After encountering a Ringwraith on the road, they manage to reach Bree, and there they meet a Man called Strider, who agrees to lead them to Rivendell. They agree only because Strider already knows about the Nazgûl and that Gandalf isn't there to guide them. After some travelling, they spend the night on the hill of Weathertop, where they are attacked by the Nazgûl at night. Strider fights off the Ringwraiths, but Frodo is grievously wounded with a morgul blade, and they must quickly get him to Rivendell for healing. While chased by the Nazgûl, Frodo is taken by the elf Arwen to the Elven haven of Rivendell, and healed by her father, Elrond.

In Rivendell Frodo meets Gandalf, who explains why he didn't meet them at Bree as planned (he had escaped Orthanc and Saruman's clutches with the help of an eagle). In the meantime, there are many meetings between various peoples, and Elrond calls a council to decide what should be done with the Ring. The Ring can only be destroyed by throwing it into the fires (that is, lava) of Mount Doom, where it was forged. Mount Doom is located in Mordor, near Sauron's fortress of Barad-dûr, and will be an incredibly dangerous journey. Frodo volunteers to take the Ring to Mount Doom as all the others argue about who should or shouldn't take it. He is accompanied by his hobbit friends and Gandalf, as well as Strider, who is revealed to be Aragorn, the rightful heir to the throne of Gondor. Also travelling with them are the Elf Legolas, the Dwarf Gimli and Boromir, the son of the Steward of Gondor. Together they comprise the Fellowship of the Ring. The Fellowship set out and try to pass the mountain Caradhras, but they are stopped by Saruman's wizardry. At Gimli's insistence, they decide to seek safety and travel under the mountain through the Mines of Moria. They discover that an attempt by Gimli's cousin Balin to colonize it has failed. They are attacked by Orcs and a Cave Troll, and encounter a Balrog, an ancient demon of fire and shadow, at the Bridge of Khazad-dûm. Gandalf confronts the Balrog on the bridge, allowing the others to escape the subterranean realm, while he falls with the creature into the abyss below.

The group flees to the Elven realm of Lothlórien, where they are sheltered by its rulers, Galadriel and her husband Celeborn. While resting, Boromir tells Aragorn about the troubles afflicting the land of Gondor and the people's desire to see a strong King rescue it from destruction. He also states that he and Aragon once shall ride to the city as "The Lords of Gondor". Frodo meets Galadriel, who tells him that it's his destiny to handle the Ring and ultimately destroy it. Before they leave, Galadriel gives Frodo the Phial of Galadriel, and the other members also receive gifts from them. Taking the straight path to Mordor, they travel on the River Anduin towards Parth Galen.

After landing at Parth Galen, Boromir tries to take the Ring from Frodo, believing that it is the only way to save his realm. Frodo manages to escape by putting the Ring on his finger and vanishing. Aragorn encounters Frodo, but unlike Boromir, Aragorn chooses not to take the Ring. Knowing that the Ring's temptation will be too strong for the Fellowship, Frodo decides to leave them and go to Mordor alone. Meanwhile, the rest of the Fellowship are attacked by Uruk-hai, who Saruman had ordered to hunt down the Fellowship and take back the Ring. Merry and Pippin, realizing that Frodo is leaving, distract the orcs allowing Frodo to escape. Boromir rushes to the aid of the two hobbits but is mortally wounded by the orc commander Lurtz. Before he can finish Boromir, however, Aragorn arrives and slays Lurtz after a brief fight. Boromir regrets having attempted to steal the Ring, but is forgiven by Aragorn, who promises him that he will not allow Gondor to fall into ruin. Heartened by Aragorn's words, Boromir accepts Aragorn as his king before he dies. Merry and Pippin are captured prompting Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas to begin their pursuit of the orcs with the intent of rescuing the hobbits, leaving Frodo to his fate. Before Frodo departs, Sam decides to join him and together they head off to Mordor.

Final Destination Sequal

FINAL DESTINATION
Alex Browning (portrayed by Devon Sawa) is going on a school-run trip to Paris with his fellow peers. Before take-off, Alex has a premonition that his flight explodes in mid-air, killing everybody. Alex then wakes up, assuming the events to be just a dream. However, as events from his vision begin to repeat themselves in reality, Alex panics and attempts to stop the flight. The resulting commotion leads to a handful of passengers being left behind. As they witness the explosion from the terminal, they realize that what Alex witnessed wasn’t just a dream. Soon after, the survivors of the flight begin dying in chain of bizarre accidents, in the same order they would have died on the plane.

FINAL DESTINATION 2
Alex Browning and Carter Horton are now dead from the first film. One year later, while on vacation, Kimberly Corman (portrayed by A. J. Cook) experiences a vision of a mass pile-up on the highway. She blocks the entrance ramp to the highway so that motorists who would have otherwise died are spared. Soon these survivors start dying in mysterious ways as in the first film, and with the help of Clear Rivers, Kimberly tries to stop death's design before everyone dies. Kimberly visits Clear in a mental institution where she tells Kimberly to be careful because the order has reversed itself.

FINAL DESTINATION 3

The movie opens with Wendy, a soon-to-be graduate from McKinley High School, visiting a theme park with friends and taking random photos of each of them. The group boards a roller coaster, and Wendy has a premonition that the coaster will crash, killing everyone. She wakes up from this premonition, still in the coaster, and demands to be let off. The attendant frees all the seats in the rear car, and when the coaster leaves the station, it crashes as predicted, killing her boyfriend and her best friend in it.

Soon, Wendy realizes that the people who survived are now dying in the order in which they would have died if they stayed on the roller coaster, and she tries to prevent further deaths after discovering a link to how the person will die using the photos she took. Her best friend's boyfriend, Kevin Fischer, helps Wendy to try and stop the deaths and cheat Death once more.

The Godfather Sequal

The plot deals with a gang war fought between the Corleone family and the other four of the five families of New York. After Don Vito Corleone is shot by men working for drug dealer Virgil "The Turk" Sollozzo, his two sons, Santino and Michael must run the family business with the help of consigliere Tom Hagen and the two Capos Peter Clemenza and Salvatore Tessio. When Sollozzo and an Irish police captain are murdered by Michael, the conflict escalates into a full scale war which results in Santino's death and Michael, despite his wishes, ascending to the head of the family. He slowly becomes more ruthless than his father, even killing his brother in law Carlo Rizzi, who played a part in Santino's murder. Also as the story progresses many of the minor characters, such as the Don's godson Johnny Fontane and his friend Nino Valenti, Sonny's former girlfriend Lucy Mancini, and Michael's bodyguard Al Neri, are expanded on and given their own subplots. Many of these subplots are not included in the movie. The novel culminates when Michael has his two main enemies, the novel's main antagonist, Emilio Barzini and a lesser but still severely important antagonist, Philip Tattaglia, assassinated. After the total elimination of the Tattaglia Family and Barzini Family, Michael sells all his business in New York and makes the Corleone Family a legitimate business in Las Vegas.


In 1972, a film adaptation of the novel was released, starring Marlon Brando as Don Vito Corleone, Al Pacino as Michael Corleone, and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Mario Puzo assisted with writing the screenplay and with other production tasks. The film grossed approximately $134 million and won various awards, including three Academy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Grammy and is considered to be one of the greatest films of all time. The sequel, The Godfather Part II won six Oscars, and became the first sequel to win the Oscar for Best Picture.

The film is similar in most places, but leaves out some details, such as extended back stories for some characters. Some of these details were actually filmed, and were included in later versions such as The Godfather Saga. A subplot involving Johnny Fontane in Hollywood was not filmed. The biggest difference was that the novel included a more upbeat ending than the film, in which Kay Corleone found a peaceful acceptance of Michael's decision to take over his father's business. The film, in contrast, ended sharply with Kay's dreadful realization of what Michael had done and his ruthlessness, a theme that would develop in the second and third films, which were not based on the original novel.

The third film also introduces "impossible" characters such as Vincent [Vincenzo] Mancini, inconsistent with the continuity of events from the novel.

In 2004, Random House published a sequel to Puzo's The Godfather, The Godfather Returns, by Mark Winegardner. A further sequel by Winegardner, The Godfather's Revenge, was released in 2006. The sequel novels continue the story from Puzo's novel. While they do at times contradict certain events (ex. the assassinations of all four of the remaining New York Dons from the film, and the reappearances of Dons Cuneo and Stracci in Returns) from the film sequels, they can be read independently, or be seen as supplemental, to the films.

The Godfather Returns picks up the story immediately after the end of Puzo's The Godfather. It covers the years 1955 to 1962, as well as providing significant backstory for Michael Corleone's character prior to the events of the first novel. The events of the film The Godfather Part II all take place within the time frame of this novel, but are only mentioned in the background. The novel contains an appendix that attempts to correlate the events of the novels with the events of the films. The novels and films dovetail in a curious fashion.

The Godfather's Revenge covers the years 1963 to 1964.

Continuing Puzo's habit, as seen in The Godfather, of featuring characters who are close analogues of real life events and public figures (as Johnny Fontane is an analogue of Frank Sinatra), Winegardner features in his two Godfather novels analogues of Joseph, John F., and Robert F. Kennedy (the Shea family, in the novels) as well as an analogue for alleged organized crime figure Carlos Marcello. (Carlo Tramonti). In The Godfather Returns, Winegardner also dramatizes the sweep of organized crime arrests that took place in Apalachin, New York, in 1957.

Winegardner uses all of the characters from the Puzo novels, and created a few of his own, most notably Nick Geraci, a Corleone soldier whose role in the two sequel novels is as important as those of the Puzo-created characters. Winegardner further develops Puzo characters like Fredo Corleone, Tom Hagen, and Johnny Fontane.

Hunting in The Connecticut

The story centers around Matt Campbell, a teenager who is being treated for cancer with a trial therapy in a remote hospital. Matt's mother, Sarah, rents a house near the hospital; she learns that the house was previously a funeral home. Subsequently, they discover a door inside Matt's room in the basement, which severely burns Matt when he attempts to enter one night. Sarah finds old photographs from when the house was used as a funeral home. Later, the door in Matt's room swings open as Matt wakes during the night, revealing a mortuary room. Matt experiences visions; during dinner as they link hands to say grace, he sees a vision of a séance from the point of view of a young man named Jonah (Erik J. Berg) . After his vision of the séance, Matt recites a rhyme to his cousin Wendy that disturbs her. The next day Matt has a vision of crabs crawling across the floor and over his body. Matt then meets Reverend Nicholas Popescu, who talks with him and gives him a contact card. That evening, the power cuts whilst Matt's little cousin is playing in her room, and a withered hand appears behind her after the light flickers off and on.

Matt, his younger brother and cousin play hide and seek with Matt seeking. After the others have hidden, Matt enters a room decorated with birds, and has a vision of Jonah. He watches as Jonah tries to gather belongings and run away as a masculine voice calls his name. The room returns to normal, but as Matt turns to walk down the hall, he hears the voice again as he looks through the banisters of the staircase. He runs downstairs and sees Jonah being grabbed by the owner of the voice, through the kitchen and down the steps to the basement, but the door to the mortuary room swings shut as he enters the room. Matt opens the door, and finds the room is full of covered corpses, as it would have been during use. The door shuts behind him, and he finds he cannot reopen it. Matt turns to see the bodies uncovered, and a foot of one of the bodies moves. He calls for Wendy, then looks up to see the bodies standing close. He attempts to push the corpses away, but the vision disappears and he is instead pushing his young brother away from him. Afterward, Matt calls the Reverend for help, who advises him to find out what the spirits want from him.

That night while Matt is working out in his room, a charred ghost appears by his side, and Matt ask the ghost what it wants. Matt sees a brief vision of fire. Later, his family return to the house, where they discover him paralyzed in a corner his hands covered in blood and the wall presumably scratched by his fingernails. At the hospital, Sarah and her husband Peter are told that Matt's behavior had not been an effect of his cancer or medication. Matt tries to tell his mother to do something in the event that he dies, but Sarah interrupts and tells him that he will not die. Sarah leaves the room and cries, then tries to pray for Matt's recovery but breaks down into tears. In another room, Peter watches a slideshow of pictures of Matt through the years and then ends up crying.

During a game of hide and seek, Matt's younger brother encounters a badly burned ghost in a dumbwaiter, and his younger cousin falls through some rotten floorboards in the attic. After she receives help, Matt discovers a box underneath the floorboards containing a number of photographs from the séance. He also finds a box of human eyelids. The photos of the séance shows a boy Matt recognizes as Jonah, and ectoplasm emerging from his mouth. Matt again recites the rhyme he had told Wendy, and links it with Jonah. He tells Wendy he has seen Jonah every day since they had moved into the house, and Wendy suggests the house is haunted. They investigate the house's past in libraries, and discover that the previous owner, Doctor Aickman, conducted séances in the house, using his assistant Jonah as a medium. During one of the séances, Aickman and his guests all died and Jonah went missing. Matt then contacts Nicholas. Nicholas hypothesizes that Aickman removed the corpses' eyelids so the dead were not "at peace" and performed necromancy on the bodies that he was meant to inter to enhance Jonah's abilities as a medium. They also discover that the bodies were never buried; Aickman filled all the coffins with sandbags. Nicholas asks for Matt and Wendy to pray with him for those spirits. As they hold hands to pray, Matt has another vision. He sees a séance in which ectoplasm emerges from Jonah's mouth and turns into fire. Sarah enters the room and demands to know why Nicholas is there. Matt's vision disappears. Nicholas tries to tell her that the spirits in the house want her son and Sarah responds by telling Nicholas to leave. That night, Sarah sees a vision of a corpse standing in her room. Peter returns home drunk, and upon entering the house exclaims that every light is on. The children stay in Sarah's room as Peter walks around the house removing every light bulb. Sarah warns Peter afterward that he cannot come home if he gets drunk again. That night, the house has an electrical storm during the night, during which the television and other appliances turn on and off by themselves while light flashes where the bulbs in the lamps and ceiling lights had been.

Nicholas is called back the same night, and while he is searching the house for the restless spirit, he spots the figure in Matt's room. He notifies Sarah, who rushes to protect Matt while he is asleep. Nicholas enters the mortuary room, and talks to the spirit. He eventually looks into the mortuary oven, and is prevented from searching it as its door slams violently. Finding another way to explore it outside the house, Nicholas discovers ashes and a portion of a skull in the mortuary oven. While removing it, a bloodied figure is seen behind Sarah, walking towards Matt, shadows of birds are seen flapping in windows, and the doors and windows of the house begin to slam violently, which abruptly ceases after Nicholas has removed the remains. The figure in the basement disappears. Matt wakes to find runes being carved into his body by some force, and his screams alert his family who rush him to the hospital. Nicholas runs off the road after seeing the burned ghost in his rear view mirror. Both he and Matt have a similar vision, revealing that the burned ghost is Jonah. The visions of the séance Matt saw concludes in Jonah accidentally using his medium powers to burn the other members of the séance, including Aickman, to death. Jonah was then chased by their angry spirits into the dumbwaiter, which dropped down into the incinerator where he burned to death.

Nicholas realizes that Jonah had been trying to help the dead to escape while he had been alive, and Jonah's remains were the only factor keeping the rage of the other ghosts in check. He calls the household, but Wendy is in the shower, and is unable to hear the phone. Nicholas leaves a message explaining that they need to escape the house immediately.

At the hospital, Peter and Sarah learn that Matt's treatment has had no effect, and that he may die at any time. They request to see him, but upon entering his room, they find a man chanting the rhyme Matt had told Wendy, and the window broken. At the house, Wendy sees Matt crossing the lawn holding a fire axe, and immediately tells the children to hide, locking the door. But she fails to realize Matt's intentions, who tells her to get herself and the other two children outside the house, and not to put out the fire. He barricades himself inside the house and smashes the interior walls of the living room, revealing dozens of embalmed corpses. After setting the house ablaze the angry spirits of the victims surround him but the spirits are eventually released by the fire. Sarah runs in to save him and the firemen pull them both out of the burning house. Matt is revived and Jonah's spirit is released from Matt's body, and stands over him, seen only by Nicholas. After credits state that Matt's cancer went into total remission, and that the Aickman house was rebuilt and resold, with no further incidents reported.

RACE TO THE WITCH MOUNTAIN

Jack Bruno (Dwayne Johnson) is a cab driver in Las Vegas, who is picking up and dropping off passengers to the UFO convention at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. One of his passengers is Dr. Alex Friedman (Carla Gugino), a failed scientist who is giving speeches about legitimate scientific theories of UFOs and outer space.

The next day, Bruno notices two children, Sara (AnnaSophia Robb) and Seth (Alexander Ludwig) sitting in the back seat of his cab. They tell him they need to go to a certain destination and are willing to pay all they have ($15,000) to get there. They lead him to a run down house in the middle of nowhere. Meanwhile, Major Henry Burke (Ciaran Hinds) is searching for information on the two aliens that landed some days earlier.

When they arrive at the house, Bruno follows them out of concern and curiosity to the basement. There the kids retrieve their objective, a device contained within alien flora.

When leaving they are attacked by a "Siphon", a creature built to destroy a certain target. The Siphon pursues them until its spaceship crashes into a train, and the creature is wounded. The trio eventually find themselves in a small town, Stony Creek, where they encounter Tina the waitress (Tia from the original movie) and the sheriff (Tony from the original movie), now both grown and settled in the town to which they escaped in the original movie. The children explain to Bruno that they are aliens from a distant planet, who are sent to Earth by their parents because the government of their dying planet intends to attack and invade Earth so that their kind may live on there. They also explain that the object they obtained at the house contains the results of an experiment which their parents set up. The research from this experiment will save their planet without having to attack and invade Earth. However their planet's military prefer the idea of invading Earth and sent the Siphon assassin to stop them. They are next pursued by government agencies trying to retrieve the children for experiments.

They are joined by Dr. Friedman at the UFO Expo. With help of one of Dr. Friedman's friends, the kids discover that their crashed spaceship has been relocated to a government base at Witch Mountain. While preparing to leave the UFO Expo, the Siphon arrives; Sara uses her powers to knock him through a wall. The group, now including Dr. Friedman, after evading the pursuing government agents eventually arrive at Witch Mountain. At first the children are captured along with Bruno and Friedman. Nevertheless the two humans escape and come to rescue the kids. The Siphon causes a distraction by attacking the base. They manage to free the children and reach their ship. By running the Siphon over they escape but the Siphon hangs on and gets on board. Bruno and Seth battle the Siphon, unmasking him in the fight. Finally, Bruno knocks him into the ships engine. The kids drop Jack and Alex off and after a tearful goodbye, they head back to their ship, but give Bruno and Alex a device that will allow the kids to always find them. And Sara gives Jack the power to use his brain to the mind reading ability.

In the post-credits scene, Bruno and Dr. Friedman (now a couple) are speaking at a UFO convention about their new successful book called "Race to Witch Mountain". The last scene shows them driving off in a car Bruno dreamed of getting honestly as he had mentioned to Friedman earlier—a Mustang similar to that driven by Steve McQueen in Bullitt. As they are about to leave, the device the kids gave Bruno activates, indicating that they may be returning.
