AJ's father, Ace Ventura Sr., is lost in the Bermuda Triangle. 12 years old Ace 'AJ' Ventura Jr. (Josh Flitter) follows in his father's comic footsteps by becoming a pet detective. When a master animal thief abducts a baby Panda and several other animals from the Zoo where his mother works, he embarks on a mission to find them. His mother is wrongly arrested for the crime and his grandfather, Rex Ventura, (Ralph Waite) is asked to takes care of him. AJ teams up with the girl next door, Laura (Emma Lockhart) and nerdy gizmo-wiz A-Plus (Austin Rogers) to find the baby panda and other animals. The thief turns out to be Mr. Quentin Pennington Sr. who stole animals at Theme Parks. His son, incidentally, Quentin Pennington Jr., (Reed Alexander) had been stealing AJ's classmates' pets.
